Soccer vs. Baseball Field Spring Access Reminder
Please remember that soccer is a Secondary Permit Sport in the City of Santa Clara Parks & Recreational Department during the Spring Season. This means that youth baseball teams and games have first rights to fields. Soccer becomes a First Permit Sport during the Fall.
Everyone needs to be aware that Soccer Park is the only facility where you are not in danger of being forced to terminate the game on a moment's notice due to baseball. If baseball asks you to leave, please do not argue that you have 30 kids and 30 parents from all over the Bay Area who drove to play this game while the baseball person has 8 kids out to take 30 minutes of batting practice. You will lose the argument, and SCYSL will lose some clout with the City of Santa Clara for being bad neighbors to baseball during their main season. All our Spring season games are subject to availability of fields with baseball holding the top permit.
Cabrillo Field is the main field for pre-season games in many leagues, so they won't affect us once the season starts, but they use the field often in March. - posted 3/5/2015
