Ralf Cebrian Awarded 2011 CYSA State & District II Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Ralf Cebrian, who receive the 2010 CYSA State Coach of the Year, and the 2010 CYSA District II "Coach of the Year Award" todayat the Annual CYSA Expo held in Monterey. He receives recognition for coaching the Santa Clara Sporting ’94 Boys Team and taking them from an unranked Class 3 Team, to a Top-10 Class 1 Ranked Team in the United States. In forty years of coaching Ralf Cebrian has worked with various age groups from U-10 to Professional.

Robert Olsen & Mohsen Darabi Join SCYSL Board of Directors

The Santa Clara Youth Soccer League Board of Directors is pleased to announce the addition of two new Board of Directors members. Robert Olsen joins as the new Referee Coordinator, and Mohsen Darabi is our new Equipment Coordinator.  On behalf of the entire SCYSL league and all the familes, we THANK YOU both and welcome you to our Board!

New Board of Director Officers Elected for 2011-12

The annual Santa Clara Youth Soccer League AGM was held on March 9th, and four board members were elected to the 2011-12 Executive Officer Team.  Matt Heintz will serve as the President, Steve Robertson takes the Vice President Role, Gabe Foo will serve as the Treasurer, and April Estrella becomes the Secretary. 

SCYSL would like to express our graitude to the exiting Excutive Board members who dedicated three years serving the league; Tino Silva/President, Demitri Cacoyannis/VP, Gary Gratney/Treasurer and Jim Lawrence/Secretary.

The new excutive board will start on April 1, 2011.

SCYSL Offering CYSA F and E Coaching Courses in June & July

SCYSL is planning to host two CYSA Coaching Courses during the month of July. If you are interested to sign-up, please contact Steve Robertson ASAP as the classes will fill-up quickly.

  • CYSA "F" course - June 17-18 (most likely the lecture portion will be Thur June 16 from 6:30-9pm at Soccer Park conference room, with Sat field session at Wilson Adult Education Center)
  • CYSA "E" course - July 8-10 (again, most likely Thur the 7th at SP, with Sat/Sun field sessions at Wilson)

Explanation of CYSA Coaching Courses

  • Pre-F course - An introductory evening course geared towards first-time parent coaches that want a high-level overview of coaching youth soccer (mainly for the younger ages, u5-u8)
  • F course - First "real" course held by CYSA-North, designed to provide a coach (primarily beginning competitive coach) a structure for effective coaching/practice plans and base-level game management techniques. (9-hr course typically Friday evening and all day Sat)
  • E course - More advanced course, which is 18 hours, usually Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

Premier Soccer Summer Camps - July 25-29/Aug 1-5

Premier Soccer Coaching is holding two Soccer Summer Camps in the Santa Clara area. The camps are open to players or all ages and abilities and will focus on improving players individual skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, receiving and defending, as well as working on tactical topics such as two and three player passing combinations, switching the play, defensive shape, possession, crossing and finishing, reacting to a change in possession as well as many more.  More information....

Free Coaching Clinics for SCYSL Coaches Provided by SCYSL/UK International

SCYSL has once again partnered with UK International to provide our recreational soccer coaches with hands-on training to help develop players this Fall season. The plan this season is to provide coaching clinics at a central location (probably Wilson Field).  UK International will have two coaches at the field from 4:30pm-7:30pm, and each team will get two sessions of coaching; one session during the first four weeks of the season, followed by a second session during the latter half of the season. A sign-up sheet was sent to coaches to schedule their teams for the free clinics..

The Jonathan Manzo Chavez Soccer Award

The Santa Clara Sporting Club and the Santa Clara Youth Soccer League are extremely excited to announce the launch of our first Annual Jonathan Manzo Chavez Soccer Award !

Starting this 2011 season, Santa Clara Sporting and SCYSL will recognize four soccer players who demonstrate the same passion, dedication and support for his/her teammates. We will award four exceptional players every calendar year (1 Santa Clara Sporting U10 boys player, 1 Santa Clara Sporting U10 girls player, 1 Santa Clara Youth Soccer U10 boys player, and 1 Santa Clara Youth Soccer U10 girls player)...

Santa Clara Fire Win Soccer by the Bay Tournament

The Santa Clara Fire U11boys team participated in the Soccer by the Bay last weekend in San Mateo. With allowing only 3 goals and scoring 14 in 4 games, Santa Clara Fire took first place overall in the bronze division. Fire also had two shutouts during their 4-0-0 championship run and faced a tough Peninsula Hawks team for the final. Way to go FIRE!

2011 SCYSL Picture Day Scheduled Posted

Final Picture Day Schedule - posted 9/16/11

Picture Day is Saturday, September 17th at Curtis field. Coaches, if you haven’t already done so, please be sure to pick up your Picture Day order forms.

Please check your time slot and if you need to change your time, please contact Tom Austin at picturecoordinator@scyouthsoccer.org. Changes will be reflected within a day or two.

SCYSL has provided for every player to receive a free Memory Mate that consists of a 3x5 player photo and a 5x7 team photo, so every player needs to fill out an order form to get his/her free Memory Mate. If your team needs additional Order Forms, you can go to the following link and download and print the order form

Santa Clara Strikers 96 Crowned 2011 District Cup Champions

The Santa Clara Strikers ’96 U15 Boys team competed in the District II Fall Cup on October 22nd-23rd advancing to the finals after scoring eight goals and only allowing two goals in their three qualifying games. The team faced the Almaden Valley United team and won a hard fought championship in hot weather by the score of 2-0, winning the Bronze Division and posting its 3rd shutout in four games. Congratulations to the team for a great tournament!

Santa Clara Vipers Win North Valley Classic

The Santa Clara Vipers Girls U10 soccer team were crowned champions at the North Valley December Classic Soccer Tournament held December 3rd-4th in Milpitas. Santa Clara Fusion are Finalists at North Valley Classic

The Santa Clara Fusion Girls U14 soccer team were Finalists at the North Valley December Classic Soccer Tournament held December 3rd-4th in Milpitas. The U14 girls bracket had four teams competing in the tournament, so every team would play every team once, and then total points earned would determine first, second, and third place.
