Attendees at the SCYSL Referee Clinic practice some Assistant Referee mechanics
Veronica Perez/FIFA Assistant Referee, Colin Arblaster/US National Referee, and Ron Marfil/District II Referee Instructor
On Saturday, February 20th, SCYSL held a referee clinic at the Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park. Over 45 referees participated in this clinic, which focused on communications, positioning, movement, and signaling for assistant referees. We were honored to have Veronica Perez, a FIFA Assistant Referee attend and provide instruction. Veronica is one of only three FIFA Assiatant Referees in the United States with international experience including the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Also in attendance was Colin Arblaster, a National Referee with Major League Soccer experience, and Ron Marfil, District II Referee Mentor Program Coordinator and also a referee instructor and assessor. The referees who attended the program were able to learn from the best, and had a chance to run through drills, which was nice on a cold afternoon! We hope the benefits of this sort of training will be apparent on the playing fields this year. Many thanks to Bob Sherman and Burt Fields, our referee leadership at SCYSL for making this event happen.
