Sporting '90, '93 & '94 Boys Win District Cup

    Santa Clara Sporting ’90 Boys Team at 2008 District 2 Cup

The Santa Clara Sporting ’’90, ’93 & ’94 Boys Teams all won the District Cup Championship, while the ’90 Girls Team finished 3rd last weekend at the tournament. All the SC Sporting Teams debut their new pink "Goals-For-a-Cure" pink colored jerseys.

Indoor Soccer Leagues in San Jose
Where to play soccer in the winter

Fall soccer season is almost over and if your kids are still interested in playing soccer during the winter, there are a few very popular programs to check-out. SCYSL does not offer indoor soccer or endorse any of these programs, but many competitive teams compete in these indoor leagues to stay fit.

14 Sporting Players Invited to State ODP Tryouts

14 Santa Clara Sporting players were invited to tryout for the 2008-09 CYSA Cal-North State ODP Teams the first two weekends in December. These soccer players are competing in the U13-U15 age groups and will tryout December 6th-7th in Morgan Hill, then December 13th-14th in Ripon.

Clark, Gooch & Osborne Tryout in the UK
Osborne Called-up to US National Team & Tryout for Chivas US

Midfielder Byrce Clark and forward Lynden Gooch from the Santa Clara Sporting Boys 95 Team traveled to England in August to train and tryout with the Sunderland FC Youth Academy (England). Lynden Gooch and Riche Osborne (Sporting 92) also had a tryout with the West Ham United Youth Academy team, in East London, which has produced internationally reknowned players

Sporting 97 & 95 Girls Win Clovis Tournament


The Sporting U11 and U13 girls dug deep in Clovis to bring home two Championship Cups! The U11 and U13 girls both went undefeated into the finals. The U11 girls had 9 goals for and 2 against for the tournament. They beat LG Elite in the Finals 2-0. The U13 girls had 12 goals for and 1 against for the tournament. They beat Manteca Arsenal in the finals 2 -1.

Locks of Love a Huge Success

In conjunction with “Goals for a Cure”, Caroline Cuevas (Sporting ’96 Boys Team Manager) organized a Hair Donation drive to benefit Locks of Love - a company that makes wigs for children with cancer. Caroline’s daughter and teammates donated their hair for the cause. Caroline was brilliant enough to secure some corporate sponsorship to donate money for every inch of hair the girls donated.

Goals-for-a Cure Coaches Game

Thirty coaches from the Santa Clara Sporting Club played in a friendly soccer match at Santa Clara University to celebrate the end of the Goals-for-a-Cure fund-raising event.  During the entire month of October, all 25 Santa Clara Sporting Teams were competing in special pink

Free Futsal Soccer Clinics at MACSA on Monday and Friday Nights
Open to Boys & Girls 5-12 years old
The MACSA Futsal League in San Jose is offering FREE futsal soccer clinics to boys and girls (ages 5-12) on Monday and Fridays from 5pm to 7pm. If you have never played futsal soccer, it’s an incredibly fun and fast form of indoor soccer played on a rubber mat. The MACSA League runs all year-round, and is very popular during the winter season when there is limited daylight to play soccer outside.

6 Comp Teams Crowned League Champions!
Successful Fall Season for SCYSL & SC Sporting Teams
The Fall 2008 Delgado League (Class 3) and Abronzino (Class 1) League Seasons came to a close, and our Santa Clara YSL and Santa Clara Sporting Teams finished with a successful season. Seven Santa Clara Sporting Teams were crowned League Champions last weekend.

In Memory of Jonathan Manzo Chavez

On Saturday, November 15th, Santa Clara Youth Soccer and Santa Clara Sporting Club lost Jonathan Manzo Chavez, a very special young player to a tragic traffic accident while traveling home with his family from a soccer tournament in Manteca. Jonathan was a member of Sporting’s Boys Under 10 Team. On that Saturday morning, Jonathan, his mother and two siblings travelled to Manteca for a NorCal State Cup qualifying tournament.

New Bay Area Pro Womens Team Calls Itself FC Gold Pride
Team Will Kick-Off Season in March 2009
The Bay Area Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) franchise announced its team name today, FC Gold Pride.  Along with its name, the Pride announced its home field, Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University, established the team’s colors, black and gold, and unveiled the new logo at the team’s kick off media event held today at Santa Clara University.

1,000 Soccer Players & Parents Attend Jonathan's Funeral

Junior Bernal started it. Then R.J. Cabral. Then Rudy Castro. As their teammate’s white coffin was lowered into the ground Monday, the 9- and 10-year-old players from the Santa Clara Sporting Green soccer team pulled off their green-and-white soccer jerseys, and, one by one, threw them into the hole.

"It was for him to remember us," Junior Bernal said.

$26,537.45 Raised for Goals for a Cure
The Santa Clara Sporting Club launched the Goals-For-a-Cure campaign during the month of October to raise awareness and collect donations to fight breast cancer. The 25 teams in the club raised $26, 537.45 through a series of fund-raising activities.

Ayden Burnett Scores for Pretty Boy

My name is Melissa Burnett, and I would love to share a story with you about my son Ayden Burnett. He is just 8 years old. As his mother, I am overwhelmed by his compassion, and humbled by his selfless kindness, and unprovoked commitment to a boy he will never meet. I am so proud of him, and truly am touched by how genuine and sincere his actions were. I hope this story brings a tear to your eye and a smile to your heart, as it has to mine.

Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament for Jonathan Dec. 14th
Los Gatos & Central Valley Soccer League Fundraiser
Bav Thakrar from Los Gatos United Soccer League and Scott Smith from the Central Valley Youth Soccer League are hosting the Jonathan Manzo Chaves Texas Hold’em Poker Fundraiser Tournament at 7:15pm on Sunday, December 14th at CB Hannegan’s in Los Gatos. Tickets are $50 at the door and proceeds go to support Jonathan’s Family.  The $50 Buy-in includes: Professional Dealers, Appetizers, Chips and Cards, and Trophies and Prizes for the first four finishers!
